  1945 Ford Truck

This history is told by Michael Gardner on 3/2/05

In 1946, Carl W. Gardner, my grandfather, moved his family including my grandmother, father and uncle to Gainesville, Virginia from Washington DC. He grew up in and around Shelby, NC and longed to get back to his country roots. He bought the farm that is now Hillwood and the selling farmer had this Ford truck that went with the farm.

As I grew up, I played in this truck in the barn alot. My father and mother dated in this truck. They moved from Norfolk, Virginia when my father was discharged from the Navy back to Gainesville in this truck. So as you can see, the truck has a big family history.

When my grandfather gave the truck to me in 1990, he also decided that he would pay to have it frame off restored. The truck at that time had close to 300,000 miles. After making a few mistakes with some bad restoration shops in the area, we finally had Classic Automotive in Manassas, Virginia do the restoration. The shop is owned by Jim Walker and he really helped us out with this project. We did have to buy a reproduction bed and one running board but everything else is original. These pictures are taken today, 3/2/05, as I just pulled it out of storage in my uncle's garage and with a new battery, it started right up. We haven't even washed it yet. Looks great!!! The Restoration was completed in 1993. There are a few items that needs attention to detail but overall this is my prize possession and hopefully I can hand it down to my children and grandchildren.

This truck is available for viewing by appointment only.  Please contact me @ 800 754 4202 with any questions.
